What is a BAS Statement?

A Business Activitity Statement (aka “BAS statement”) is a report of a businesses tax obligations that is submitted to the Australian Tax Office (ATO).

Generally a BAS statement is submitted every quarter, but in some instances businesses may be required to report on Pay As You Go (PAYG) tax and Goods and Services Tax (GST) on a monthly basis.

A BAS statement includes Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT), Pay as You Go Withholding (PAYGW), Pay as you Go Installments (PAYGI), Luxury Car Tax (LCT) and Wine Equalisation Tax (WET).

The type of form a business needs to submit depends on the type of organisation and its tax obligations are. For some businesses lodging a BAS statement may be done annually (subject to approval).
